Start at a low level. Most playback hardware cannot reproduce frequencies above ~20 kHz, and high levels can damage hearing or speakers. Level is relative dB above silence (100 = digital full scale, 0 = silent). It is not SPL — absolute loudness depends on your speakers and system volume.
